Avignon - If you want to see Provence, you have just a single choice and that's Avignon. This city has unbelievable architecure starting with the moment you arrive passing over the fantastically preserved ramparts that form a circle around the whole city until you see the world reknowned bridge, the Pond d'Avignon, The Palais de Papes (the papal palace) and the medieval fortress.

Strasbourg - Both beautiful and cosmopolitan, this city is a cultural heaven. It borders Germany and is a must see if you are going through the Alsace.
